Set on 626 acres of farm and forest, Recompence is a great place for walking, jogging and hiking. The campground "loop" is a gentle 1.3 mile walk that takes you along the shoreline, through Middle and West Bay, and past gardens and farmland of Wolfe's Neck Farm. Most of the walk is using the campground dirt roads, though please be aware that the trail connecting Middle Bay and West Bay is a little steep in some areas.
Wolfe's Neck Farm Trails
Behind the Little River Farm House at Wolfe's Neck Farm, you will find a network of over 3 miles of hiking trails. Follow the Little River through the salt marsh estuary, a unique ecosystem providing breeding grounds for herons, egrets, ducks and more.
Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park
From the Campground, just cross the Little River Bridge, take a left a the stop sign, and you'll find yourself at Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park. Known for its resident osprey couple on Googins Island, the park encompasses over 200 acres of hiking trails, picnic areas and interpretive centers.

Mast Landing Bird Sanctuary
Just before you reach downtown Freeport, take a right onto Upper Mast Landing Road and you will find this 140-acre sanctuary consisting of open fields, salt marsh, an apple orchard, freshwater stream, and mature evergreen forest. Mast Landing has 3.5 miles of hiking trails and is open from dawn to dusk year-round. Please note that pets are not allowed at the Sanctuary.
Freeport Conservation Trust
Freeport Conservation Trust is a non-profit organization operated by Freeport volunteers. Since 1977, the Trust has protected 45 properties, totaling close to 1,500 acres of Freeport land, including significant farmland, shorefront and woodlands.
Bradbury Mountain State Park
Less than a 20 minute drive from the campground in the neighboring town of Pownal. Enjoy 800+ acres of shared-use trails for horseback riders, mountain bikers and snowmobilers. Pets are welcome on leash.
