Atmosphere

At our campground people respect each other's need for tranquility. With that in mind, pets are kept quiet and leashed at all times. Quiet time is strictly observed from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am.

Recompence is a special blend of a state park and private camping facility. Created in 1958, Recompence was set aside by the Smith Family so that others could share the natural beauty of the woods, fields and ocean. Today, Recompence, which means repayment, is operated by the non-profit Wolfe's Neck Farm Foundation.

Recompence is a low impact campground. We respect our natural surroundings and pay special attention to the protection of plant and animal habitat. Our ecosystem supports a wide variety of plant life including pink lady's slippers, Indian pipes, and touch me nots. Deer, wild turkey, fox and an occasional moose call Wolfe's Neck home. For bird-watchers, it's a great spot for spring and fall migrations.

Campers enjoy the opportunities to hike, bike, bird watch, swim, fish, canoe, kayak, and even shop uptown in Freeport’s 100+ outlet stores. Recompence is a family campground.

Helpful Information

Many families camping at Recompence also enroll their children (ages 4 through 16) in the week long Summer Day Camp at Wolfe’s Neck Farm. The day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and is a convenient way for children to enjoy an active outdoor summer camp experience while giving the parents and older family members the opportunity to explore the greater Freeport area and beyond at their own pace. Children attending Summer Camp explore the camp themes of farms, gardens, forests, wetlands, healthy living, and music and theater through hands-on, experiential activities. Reservations are required For registration material or more information about WNF Summer Camp, please visit www.wolfesneckfarm.org or call the Education Office at 207-865-4363.

The camp office/store is open during July and August from 8:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m, 7 days a week. For other times in the season, office/store hours will be posted.

Showers are located adjacent to the camp office/store and are coin operated.

There is a laundry facility on site with one washer and dryer. There is an additional laundry in the Town of Freeport near McDonalds.

Toilet facilities on the campgrounds are well-maintained, clean outhouses. There are flush toilets located in the same building housing the showers and laundry.

Drinking and washing water is located at various spots on the grounds (see map for detailed areas). We ask that you do not wash dishes at these locations.

There is one short hiking trail located in the campground.  Additional hiking trails are located behind the farm house at Wolfe's Neck Farm.  Wolfe’s Neck State Park, with many well maintained trails, is located ½ mile away on Wolfe’s Neck Road.
